The Bollywood Pocketbook Series by Diptakirti Chaudhuri

Films and Motherhood. Are they even related? Yes, of course. At least in a country like India where we have personified moms into so many roles on screen and more so that a film crazy nation finds cinema as a perfect excuse to be lost in a world of dreams, aspirations and lot more.

The Bollywood Pocketbook Series is written by author Diptakirti Chaudhuri who is a marketing professional and writes books on Bollywood.

Published by Hachette India , the books come in a set of four in a neat pack and are very colourful in its cover design. While it lists down and gives a little more detail of popular films, with their characters, places, dates and even things they are made into four separate books.

Hema Malini, the beautiful actress who played Seeta Aur Geeta got the role as the producers could not afford the leading actress of that time – Mumtaz.

Seeta Aur Geeta changed the dynamics of the hero-centric film for a while at least. A fighting heroine along with a damsel in distress twin was the new concept.

Talking about another character- Ajay Sharma/Vicky Malhotra from Baazingar, a risk taken by actor Shah Rukh Khan to play the villain-hero from Baazigar. Akshya Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan and even Salman Khan refused to play the role but it was destiny that the role was played by Shah Rukh Khan and audiences were indeed waiting for a new movie, new kinds of roles, roles of heroes who can show grey characters.

More such trivia can be found in the Bollywood Pocketbook series and Mums and Stories gives it a 4 on 5.
