Mangoes and Mischief Book Review on Mums and Stories

Mangoes and Mischief is a simple book written by Sreedevi Gopakumar and illustrated by Sahitya Rani.

The Mango season is yet to begin in India but the book which was published in 2017 makes you want to go back to childhood memories of wanting to have mangoes without any guilt.

Malu and Moidootty are two young children who are spending time in a village with games like playing marbles, fishing in ponds and they suddenly get an idea of eating mangoes.

Their desire leads them to a Mango tree where they encounter a demon called Maangasura. He indeed looks aggressive and someone with a bad temper.

Written in a simple tone, the story is a good read for kids in the age group of 5-8 years. The younger ones of course can be narrated the story.

So coming back to the story, the demon curses the young Moidootty with a clause of popping out mangoes everytime he speaks. As the kids are frightened and request him to take back the curse, he says it can be done on one condition. The kids are asked to get whatever dishes that can be prepared out of mangoes to him and only then, will the curse be reversed.

So what do Malu and Moidootty do to get the curse reversed?

Read the book to find out more and also to know little on the trivia of mangoes in our cuisines, its cultivation and exports along with a few dishes that might bring the curiosity in you to try it out at the earliest opportunity.

For now it is time to read the story and wait for the Mango season.

The book is illustrated well and Mums and Stories gives it a 5 on 5.
