Rakshita Dwivedi on motherhood being an enabler to begin Recipe dabba


We love featuring mumpreneur stories as they have their own way of expressing the enthusiasm that they have collected over the years.

Here is the story of Rakshita Dwivedi from Recipe Dabba  from Mumbai who was in a corporate career before plunging full time into being a momprenur.

She shares, “I love the word dreamer and that’s one thing I remember very clearly about myself and one trait which still remains with me. I come from a family of Government servants and those days (80′ s and 90’s) we only could think and aspire to be one and I wasn’t different in that case.

Courtesy to my dad’s transferable job, we stayed at various places, studied in various schools, made new friends every two to three years and that possibly made me quite a social person. Majority of my personality today is the outcome of my mum’s efforts while she guided me to be what I am today.

As a child, I would sketch beautifully, write articles for school magazine, dance to the tunes of then peppy numbers and I remember having lots and lots of friends. As I grew and took up science and then management in college, the creative bent matured more though I still pursued a well-defined and conventional career choice. Hardly did I know that life has other plans.

My corporate years in HR were my base years where I worked in numerous organizations picking up skills on the job. But then as they say, with every child a new mom is born too. While I took a plunge in motherhood in 2011, my career of course went on a roller coaster ride and that’s where alternative work formats came handy for me. This gave me enough space to pamper my growing bundle of joy and I was happy to strike a balance between two sides of my life, each one equally important.

The after effects of staying at home and trying to give the best possible meal to my little one not sure when I started experimenting with food. With time this turned into a food blog of my adventures in kitchen. More I read, more nutritionally evolved my recipes became to an extend that I finally launched Recipe Dabba as business venture to help families adapt healthy eating.

My son who is 7 now is my taster and biggest critic too. He for sure doesn’t even get carried away by the pictures but only the taste. Now this in turn helps me bond more with him, to an extend that he helps me out over the weekends to fix meals and in other household chores whenever needed.”

Talking about moms and the dilemmas on food, Rakshita shares,” The list is long, but the first one is more of a mind block that exists around healthy food not being tasty enough which of course isn’t true. Many a times mothers face problems around child being picky with food and are almost at wits end to fix it.

Moms also are overwhelmed with lot many products available in market, rather than focusing on a much more original and holistic diet pattern. Junk food is the easiest way to feed the child and isn’t just limited to chips and cold drinks but more and beyond. Many a time what we assume is the right nutrition is actually just a myth.

As I always say, being a mom of this information overload era is one of the most daunting tasks of the current time and sailing in the same boat, I am no different than my tribe.

Sharing one of my much-loved recipes and its very simple to make but very pleasing to present.

Granola Bites

  1. Muesli: 1/2 cup dry roasted
  2. Oats: 1/2 cup dry roasted and powdered
  3. Cinnamon: 1/2 tsp
  4. Raisin: 1/2 cup
  5. Almonds: 2 tbsp
  6. Cashew: 1 tbsp
  7. Sunflower seeds: 1 tbsp
  8. Pumpkin seeds: 1 tbsp
  9. Ghee: 1/2 tsp


  1. Add the raisins in a mixer jar and make a gooey paste and keep it aside.
  2. Powder Almonds and Cashew coarsely but separately and keep aside too.
  3. Now in a bowl mix muesli and oats first and with fingers start mixing.
  4. Gradually add almond and cashew powder too and keep mixing.
  5. Add half pumpkin seeds , sunflower seeds and raisins and mix so they all bind together.
  6. Next take a tin and grease it with little ghee and smear some ghee in hands too.
  7. Put the mixture in the tin and set it into a thick layer.
  8. Put this in refrigerator for an hour.
  9. De mould and cut into bite size pieces and serve with warm milk.

Rakshita however has a few practical tips and she says, “The SWOT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats) Analysis is what would let you decide for that leap of faith. Yes!! faith plays a major role when you are up for a journey of self-exploration. Anything which is away from the conventional thoughts come with its own ups and downs and facing it with strong feet on ground is the only way out. You need to be passionate on your idea and that is what would help you carve a space for yourself.

The market will always be competitive and ideas are plenty but how do you pick on them and play around is what would define your success. While you can be a flex worker, part timer or an entrepreneur along with your mommy duties, the world out there will only look at the professional in you. So make choices at the right time with the right resources and with the right skills.”

Talking on food at home she mentions, “ For me nothing can replace a good home-made meal. Remember what you eat is what you feed to your body, the only companion which remains with you life long.

Few tips is arranging your snacking space with more nuts and roasted snacks over the deep fried and sweets things. Focus on healthy eating habits for family and not just children for they pick good habits from parents. Making a menu plan for major meals and following portion control while eating out is another great way of managing what you eat. Be watchful of the nutrition content which goes in every meal, this itself will guide you towards adding more.

The best part of being a mum is that I can do so much in life. Had it not been my son, I would have never plunged into what I am in today. Being a mother has been an enabler for me and it pushes me to do more. As much as the whole motherhood can be overwhelming due to its nature of multi-tasking, it gets the best out of you.

Also I not only cook all what I post on my blog, but eat too. That’s another reason of keeping it genuinely healthy. Having said that I do have ‘bad-dish days where the recipes don’t make to my blog but have a rather sad ending. So between me, my better half and my younger one we work as a good food critic team and that is where the need for new ones come up too.

I am not a hard core food critic since I believe everyday can’t be same. But then as much as I appreciate nicely done food, I do like digging in the flavors and understanding the recipe of anything which I feel is tasty and I can try to work on its healthier version. Now it’s become more of a professional hazard than anything else.

While all this quite sums up my journey of last seven years and its only when my son would grow up , he would know how much impact he had in shaping my career. Given a choice to go back to my previous life, I wouldn’t, for this avatar is so me. It comes with its own clauses and under writings and not every day is same, but I am in a happy zone and that happens to be my winning stride too.”
